What Tech Should CS Demo at Cool Tools Cafe?

This year at the AALL Annual Meeting in Denver, CS-SIS is presenting the Cool Tools Cafe, a program featuring informal demos of tools and gadgets that will help librarians create, organize and deliver information, increase productivity, and connect with users. There will be demo tables scattered throughout the room and attendees can float around as they please.

We're looking for suggestions on which technology to present – gadgets or apps – and volunteers to do a 5-10 min demo of each. If you have ideas, please complete this survey by Friday, June 4th.

Thanks!

  1. One of the things I am working on is using a piece of software called Tegrity to create tutorials. It is billed as a ‘lecture capture’ software and is integrated into Blackboard for us. We will be using it this fall to pre-capture our LRW lectures, essentially creating tutorials with screen capture and audio. Up to now though, I have mostly used it to create short explanations for things that it would take me a long time to explain by email. For example, I attended an update on CCH’s Intelliconnect that our director and a couple of other librarians couldn’t attend. Right after, I created a short demo of the changes in the database that I thought they might be interested in using Tegrity. I emailed them the link and they were able to catch up. I have also used it to show our law school dean around BNA’s US Law Week and discuss the differences between print and electronic access and to create a short tutorial for our new faculty on our web page and electronic resource. I have also used free tools like Jing to do something similar, so that is a possibility as well.
